THE LODGE

Savor a delightful outdoor lunch, surrounded by hummingbird feeders and the timeless charm of our colonial hacienda—a perfect blend of nature and heritage
Nestled within an 80-hectare bird reserve—Quito’s last remnant of untouched Andean forest—our lodge is surrounded by native flowering trees, lush gardens, and exquisite orchids carefully cultivated from our reserve. The lodge’s picturesque front patio is adorned with hummingbird feeders that attract a stunning array of hummingbird species, including the Sparkling Violetear, White-bellied Woodstar, Shining Sunbeam, Green-tailed Trainbearer, Tyrian Metaltail, Black-tailed Trainbearer, and the remarkable Sword-billed Hummingbird.
The Sparkling Violetear is a frequent visitor at our hummingbird feeders. With a little patience, you can witness its remarkable display as it reveals its striking purple ear patches.
San Jorge Eco-Lodge Quito is also the gateway to the eco-touristic “Ruta del Colibrí” or “Hummingbird Route,” offering guests an unforgettable journey through Ecuador’s diverse avian habitats.
The patio of our colonial hacienda exudes timeless charm, featuring vibrant gardens and tranquil fountains, all embraced by the breathtaking beauty of the surrounding Andean forest.

OUR BIRD RESERVE
Our private reserve, dominated by ancient "Pumamaqui" and "Sachacapuli" trees, is one of the last remaining strongholds of prime Andean forest near Quito. This precious remnant plays a crucial role in the survival of countless species, offering a vital sanctuary for a rich diversity of life. It safeguards rare and endangered flora, including unique orchid species and medicinal plants, as well as providing essential habitat for over 100 bird species.Immerse yourself in the beauty of our reserve with two distinct trails tailored to different experiences:
Pumamaqui Trail: Embark on a shorter, yet enchanting hike through the heart of our reserve. This trail weaves through the densest parts of the forest where ancient tree branches and bushes intertwine, forming natural tunnels of lush greenery and blooming flowers. Discover the serene beauty of two Andean waterfalls along the way. A round-trip journey on the Pumamaqui Trail typically takes about 2 hours.
Andean Spirit Trail: For those seeking a more challenging adventure, our Andean Spirit Trail extends beyond the Pumamaqui Trail and follows an ancient pre-Inca path, leading to "El Mirador." This summit provides breathtaking panoramic views of Quito, its surrounding Andean valleys, and majestic snow-capped volcanoes. Expect a 3 to 4-hour round-trip hike on this trail.
For guests who prefer a shorter and gentler walk, we also offer well-marked paths around our eco-lodge’s gardens and nearby forested areas, providing a perfect introduction to the natural beauty of our surroundings
