THE LODGE

San Jorge Eco-lodge Sumaco Bajo is a birding paradise nestled in the beating heart of the Amazon jungle. Our newly stablished birding lodge is situated at an elevation of 1300ft (400m), while our private reserve extends up to 2600ft (800m).  Nestled in the lower reaches of the Sumaco Napo-Galeras National Park and Sacha Urku, San Jorge Eco lodge Sumaco BajoOur birding lodge boasts an ideal centralized location amidst the diverse microclimate of the Amazon jungle. offering unparalleled access to a variety of habitats for birding and wildlife photography. LOCATION

Our birding paradise is a mere 2 hours of scenic driving from San Jorge Eco-lodge Guacamayos and 40 minutes away from Coca airport. We are located 1 hour away from Wawa Sumaco town, 40 minutes away from Napo river, and right next to Sacha Urku.

OUR BIRD RESERVE

San Jorge Sumaco Bajo BridgeSan Jorge Eco-lodge Sumaco Bajo 800-hectare private reserve stretches from 1300ft (400m) all the way up to 2600ft (800m). The trails surrounding our eco-lodge wind through a lush tropical forest, enveloping the tranquil Sacha Cocha lagoon and the vibrant swamp ecosystem thriving nearby. These habitats are home to a diverse array of unique bird species such as the Sungrebe, Black-capped Donnacobius, Hoatzin, Capped Heron, Green-and-Rufous Kingfisher, Gray-cowled Wood-Rail, Red-necked Woodpecker, Long-billed Woodcreeper, and many more. Our "Manakin Trail" meanders through varying elevations within the terrafirme forest, offering habitats conducive to up to 9 manakin species, including the enchanting Striolated Manakin, Dwarf Tyrant-Manakin, Blue-backed Manakin, Green Manakin, Blue-capped Manakin, Golden-headed Manakin, White-bearded Manakin, White-crowned Manakin, and we eagerly anticipate documenting the presence of the Wire-tailed Manakin at this trail's lowest reaches. Extend your birding adventure beyond the Manakin Trail by stepping onto the captivating "Sacha Urku Trail". Traverse this path that crosses a suspended hanging bridge above the Lagarto River, guiding you to uncover the untouched beauty of our private birding reserve's highest reaches. Here, amidst the even denser lush foliage, rare bird sightings are commonplace including the Gray-winged Trumpeter, White-plummed Antbird, Hairy-crested Antbird, Nocturnal Currasow, Cinereous Mourner, Yellow-throated Woodpecker, Cinnamon Manakin-Tyrant, Collared Puffbird, Brown Nunlet, Ocellated Poorwill, Purplish Jacamar, and if you're feeling fortunate, keep a sharp eye out for the Rufous-vented Ground Cuckoo, which has already beed captured in recordings within our birding reserve!
